2007 NHL Playoffs

The 2007 NHL playoffs
are a week away from hitting the ice, but some of the teams that will be in the
postseason and most of the NHL playoff
matchups are still up in the air. However, this should not be a big problem for
bettors. Think of it this way. Do you really want to bet on a team to
win in the playoffs if they barely got in? Sorry Leaf fans, but that?s just the
way it is.

The Western Conference
playoff has been a crapshoot for bettors over the last couple of seasons. To put
it simply, success during the NHL regular
season hasn?t meant much for teams in the
playoffs in the West. For an example just look at the playoff seeding for the
last three teams that made it to the Cup finals out of the West. They include
8^th seed Edmonton in 2006, 6^th seed Calgary in 2004 and 7^th seed Anaheim in 2003.

That could change this year.
The Detroit Red Wings are close to clinching home-ice advantage throughout the
playoffs and if they can do that another Stanley Cup parade in the Motor City might be in the future. All you have
to do is look at Detroit?s home record: The Red Wings are 28-4-8
at home this season. If they can go through the entire playoffs and only lose a
total of four games at home,
their chances of winning another championship look awfully
good.

In the East the overall
favorite is clearly the Buffalo Sabres. Despite suffering a number of injuries
throughout the season, Buffalo has been in first place in the Eastern
Conference for almost the entire campaign. The Sabres seem to have the full
package with a number of potent goal scorers, a solid blue line and a terrific
No. 1 goalie in Ryan Miller. The Sabres fell one win short of a
trip to the Cup finals last season and they?ve looked even better this
year.

Detroit
and Buffalo
won?t simply breeze through to the Stanley Cup finals though. Each team will
have some stiff competition to get through. The Western Conference is stacked
with Cup contenders like Anaheim, Nashville, Vancouver and
San Jose. The
East may not look as strong as the West on paper, but there are still a few
teams that the Sabres should fear, such as Pittsburgh, New Jersey and
Ottawa.
